#LOA Monday #6: Ruminations on spiritual paths — can LOA be akin to 12-step routes to wellness?

LOA is meant to be a spiritual path.

Why? Because we start thinking of something larger than ourselves. We start to work with spiritual tools / ideas like faith, tithing, “paying it forward” and surrender.

I’ve seen it all the time working in the addiction field where people come in wanting to change and many tell me they feel spirituality is the only way they can do it. In this way, choosing LOA as a way to live is similar to choosing a 12-step or church-oriented program in order to obtain and sustain recovery.

In both cases, it is choosing a spiritual path to create lasting change.

Isn’t that what we are doing when we engage in law of attraction activities? In LOA, we want to change our thinking. That’s the same task we undertake in addiction recovery — we have to change our thinking. LOA gives us a spiritual path with spiritual tools to do that.

I wouldn’t recommend LOA for addiction treatment. (Duh!) But most people do want a way to change their way of thinking. We want to change our habits — either we want to create new ones of our choosing or eliminate those that no longer serve us. Habit change requires a thinking change. Changing our brains is never easy. It takes work.

So in addiction recovery we are choosing to eliminate addictive behaviors like obsessive sex, shopping, gambling, eating and substance abuse. (Or any combo thereof). The way is clear: addiction is bad, living clean is good.

What are we trying to get rid of then when we choose to engage in the law of attraction? Poverty and lack.

Isn’t it all the same?

Could LOA be our spiritual path to recovering from poverty and and a lack mindset? Meaning LOA is to poverty and lack as spirituality is to addiction?

I’m asking because I’m meditating on this today. If we didn’t want to make changes in our lives, there wouldn’t be books about habits, addiction treatment centers, and a sea of information online about how to attract better things into our lives through LOA.

I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments!
